Drawing Portfolio

These are some of my highlighted pieces in my AP drawing portfolio: The Struggles of the Modern Woman. Having experienced many challenges as a young woman that have shaped the person I have become, I explored the struggles that modern women face, while also highlighting their strength and beauty. In making each piece, I asked myself the questions, "What are prominent issues in the lives of women?", and, "How can I display the power, courage, and persistence that women possess even while facing these difficult challenges?" The influence for these pieces comes from my personal experiences with sexism and what I have witnessed in the world as a young woman. I researched issues that affect women in our society. Such as eating disorders, body image, the wage gap, the standard of beauty, and how social media affects young women. Throughout my portfolio, I worked with a wide range of mediums including oil pastels, colored pencils, graphite, acrylic paint, and watercolor. By experimenting with different media, I was able to portray these issues in many different styles. I hope that through my art, others realize the severity of these challenges and how it affects women.
